We tread the path of lost featherswhere shy mushrooms rise unveiled
to the secret delight of snails.
Where fissures grow in stone, slow as time
and an owl, silent as imagination
abandons one perch for another.
Where winged insects flirt with webs
stretched across the loom of trees,
and the disappearing sun hangs on a leaf.

barefoot hiking on midsummer's night eve. love it.
Beautiful pictures, even lovelier words...
Looking at you post reminded me how much I miss walking in this type of forest...Beautiful photograph, great accompaniment for the beautiful words. Thank you
Simply stunning poem
I am going to put this one in my journal....loved the photo and the description of the snail and muchroom.....so wonderful it made me quiver with delight
you are so talented...what's it feel like?
Melanie--very nice. I was thinking the same thing as Karen: barefoot? I wouldn't dare do that here. My feet are so tender and surely I would get stabbed with something...probably poison oak.
Thanks Suz, I'm so flattered that you're going to add it to your journal!
Yes, J hikes barefoot. I tried it earlier this summer but there's been a lot of clearing in the woods and sure enough I stabbed the bottom of my foot in two different spots when I stepped on sharp severed sticks poking out of the ground. The scabs are still healing, so I didn't try it again. The paths used to be much softer!
Also, I've been spending so much time barefoot in front of people lately (at yoga classes etc) I'm more aware of how the soles of my feet look. Bloody and stained brown isn't particularly appealing...
These images are simply stunning ... I kept scrolling and realized I was hoding my breath. Vivid! Alive! Natural! Love them all.

Oh the snail on the mushroom is a work of art!!!!!!!!!
Lynn, I thought that was pretty exciting too! Who knew snails hang from the underside of mushrooms?
Gorgeous. My favorite lines:
Where winged insects flirt with webs
stretched across the loom of trees,
and the disappearing sun hangs on a leaf.
and while I enjoyed all the photos, the one with the snail now has a special place in my heart :)
Wow, the snail and the mushroom. Splendid photo and wander in the woodlands! How fun!
