This is what Friday nights currently look like at Casa M. Heart."I'm sorry I can't join you tonight, but I have a date..." (under breath) "with the computer."
This second broadcast was on Marma Chikitsa, a process/therapy involving subtle, sensitive energy points in the body that activate the body's "inner pharmacy." I took many pages of scrawled notes, and drew several heads and upper bodies that look a lot like Mr. Spock.
I even lit a candle, and burned some incredible sandalwood incense from Mysore that J and I found in a Brattleboro VT shop this afternoon, along with the book Dhanwantari, A Complete Guide to the Ayurvedic Life by Harish Johari and a hand-carved Ganesh for the car, because there's nothing like removing obstacles on the road...
The owner of the shop generously gave us a free bag of chai, custom mixed from an old Indian recipe. Honestly, I wanted to buy everything in the store. We even considered dragging home the wooden crates the items were shipped from India in when the saleswoman said we could have them, protruding nails and all.Tomorrow (if I ever actually go to bed tonight) my plan is to set up my new tent in the yard, lay down on my new Thermarest, and play with my new solar lantern, a dry run for my upcoming solo camping trip to study Ayurveda. The Thermarest inflates itself - if only the tent possessed such a useful function. I'll have J document the proceedings for the blog so he has something to do besides help, which is what he's best at. However, if he weren't so helpful to begin with I might know how to set up a tent by myself by now.
Marma Chikitsa and tent poles — lots to learn.

I can actually read the excitement in your words. Quite the plan you have for this week-end...Happy tent setting with help or by yourself ;-)
Looking forward to reading about it.
ooh! I love your bright Ganesh. Mine is a dark red-brown resin. Very plain.(but sometimes I give him a garland ;-)
OOOO... I love that store in Brattelboro, if its the one I'm thinking of!! And they sell those roll up mats for sleeping on floors, I've often thought they look maybe more comfy than Thermarests... who knows. And they sell those metal stacking lunch boxes.... on my list also. Have fun camping in your back yard- and my favorite bit of camping equipment, a head lamp... do you have one, unbeatable!
That's the one Valerianna - I loved those stacking lunch boxes. The only problem is, I'm never pulled together enough to bring my own lunch. Maybe if I bought one I'd feel more inspired. The floor mats I didn't see. Now I'm curious.
Hope the stars are shining bright for you. Enjoy your tenting experience.
Melanie--Yesterday, while purchasing different foods for K and E's anniversary snack picnic that I put together, I picked up the Magazine "Body and Soul". Guess what was in the back? Yes...an article called Modern Ayurveda with questions and answers by Hilary Garivaltis, dean of the Ayurveda program at the Kripalu Center in Stockbridge, Mass! It was quite interesting. I am going to take the quiz to see what my Dosha is. I'm thinking Pitta because from what I read, it seems more like me than the others. It even specified about the hormonal system and thyroid problems, over-rev on coffee, and vent aggression when they drink alcohol. I love sleeping in tents and my girls used to do it all the time in the summer here. Lately, we have been having trouble with skunks and raccoons...doesn't sound appealing to me to be out there. I hope you are animal-free this weekend.
You are really being prepared for you time w/ Vasant Lad. I'm sure all this will pay off.
What shop in Brattleboro. I dont remember one with stuff like that? I have several Ganesh's though, my best one is packed. I'm not sure I could ever setup a tent. But anywya, it sounds a wonderful adventure!
Suki, the shop is called Adivasi, on Flat St. We've never gone in before because I always assumed they only sold textiles. Now I'm wondering how soon I can go back and look around again...
