I adore ladyslippers, a protected flower. there were some across the street from my Cape Cod house on the way to the marsh. Also, I once found a huge cluster of them when driving around on the Cape. So tempting, but no. I was good and didnt dig them up.

Now in THIS setting, the ferns are GREAT!!

And - Karen - I'll check with my sister about the lady's slippers who lives in Sharon and often walks in the audubon sanctuary!

We used to have ladyslippers in our back woods, but apparently they travel...then there was a huge construction project next door and I haven't seen any in ages. Glad you caught them!

Wonderful photos. The ladyslipper is my favorite wildflower, my childhood was sprinkled with them, but I haven't seen a real one in decades since I moved to the midwest. Thanks for the lovely images and the flood of memories. I love taking my walks too, and always feel more grounded after a stroll in the woods.

Oh, they are around if you know where to look! I posted about them 2 weeks ago here: http://rustiquegallery.blogspot.com/2010/05/stoic-little-robin.html

They were 2-3 weeks early this year in Haydenville. The day was freezing cold, too. I love your pictures-the fern walk and all!
