The Mushroom Fairy has Come.

J just found two Morels. In our yard.

Yes, I'm serious. I've never even seen one before. And now here they are, practically knocking on the door. Both had fallen over already (I think the dog mowed them down earlier while running for her frisbee), or else we probably would have left them standing.

I've just spent the past 30 minutes looking at every Morel identification page on the internet. Regardless, I'm very wary about the thoughts of eating them — obviously they're the real deal, but what if I'm randomly allergic? And what's the proper/ most simple way to prepare them?

Regardless of whether we eat them or not, for someone who loves unusual mushrooms as much as I do this discovery is akin to finding a nugget of gold in a puddle.

WOW! Stunning! Of course they were in your yard. If I was a mushroom that's where I would hang out for sure, hoping for a photo shoot or just some much deserved admiration.

Aren't these pretty! How lucky to find them...have you seen the prices at the market...expensive. But they taste so good just sauted.
A few years ago I took the family on a mushroom ID vacation. We would head out early in the day and collect as many mushrooms as we could...puff balls were our favorite. Not to eat them of course. It was fun.
Nice find.

Wow...how wonderful to find those! I, too, have never seen one before so thanks for the photo. They look to me like they would make good prints with all that texture. Or are they too soft to print on to paper?

There's something a bit brain-like about their appearance. They're lovely and curious looking.

Awesome! I've heard that Morels are supposed to be really tasty. I hope they were if you did eat them.

Do very little to them. Little bit of butter (or olive oil), tiny, tiny squeeze of lemon, salt, pepper, eat. Toast, maybe.

You lucky dog!

I used to live with an outdoor instructor and trusted him with mushroom id but have only eaten morels since then...they are foolproof to I.D...and sliced in butter, preferably ghee
