Six Senses Sunday #44

Touch:
• The textured end papers and smooth ribbon of a new book
• Clingy old cobwebs in the attic eaves where I've been organizing
• Layers of sticky rice plastered on my palms
• Tongue burnt on hot french fries

Taste:
• Sweet Potato casserole topped with pecans sauteed in butter, maple syrup, and fresh ginger
• Marinaded tofu salad: sweet chili and sesame oils, soy sauce, red cabbage, peas, carrots, peanuts and squares of tofu
• An Ethiopian Platter from the Blue House Café. Collards, kale, ginger, lentils, some kind of flat bread, lots of spices...delicious. I am loving being a vegetarian again.
• Soy milk, banana, and chocolate shake
• Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate

Hear:
• The muffled crunch of snowshoes in the heavy woods
• The rush of a cold river
• The clattering of rice, many, many pieces of rice, raining down on me at the health food coop. Like a rain stick without the stick. Darn you, overhead bulk goods dispenser!
• Groans as my boss begins to make one of his infamously inappropriate toasts

See:
• A tall, pileated woodpecker chopping away inside an enormous blond hole he'd carved for himself
• Perfect icy snowflakes glittering beneath the outdoor light
• The full moon, catching me by surprise
• Striped trees

Feel
• Nervous when the sky turned dark, the moon rose, and j still wasn't home from the mountain
• Excited about finally starting a series of yoga classes at their very beginning

Melanie--I need you to forward me some really great vegetarian recipes. I keep trying to do better about it but occasionally I "need" some distinct protein and am really trying to find vegie substitutes that satisfy me. Anything you can point me to will be appreciated. I want snowshoes!! My daughters have been going up the hill and renting them and say that it is really fun. I know that I would enjoy it because I love walking so much. Happy Sunday.

Delicious - I also got the scent of this, not just the taste, wafting from my computer screen...

And the mention of the inappropriate toast had me smiling; it seems that he knows that it's inappropriate (unlike a boss who might be oblivious to such a thing and just be cluelessly inappropriate).

Oh yes, HKattz, he knows, and enjoys the role.

I love sticky rice. It's great with mango & coconut milk too. And I think that Ethiopian bread is called "injera". Love that too!

You're right JC, I never would have remembered that word...
