If you were looking over my shoulder in the studio this weekend you'd have seen this lotus print (here with its pink ez-carve block). I'm about ready to cut a second, more refined version in harder and more durable linoleum. Bloody fingers, here I come! It's been a couple of years since I sliced into linoleum, and I forgot how much I like the messy, sometime painful process.
Here's a version in cut paper that hasn't been glued down yet. I made all the paper (except the nubby blue background) years ago, recycling junk mail and outdated letterhead from a former employee. Tall stacks of white, green, blue, pink and gray sheets emerged, and I've been using them for art ever since. With the door closed and the heater on the temperature in the studio becomes very comfortable, which is more than I can say for the rest of the house. If the thought of being warm doesn't motivate me to make some art, nothing will.

I have always wanted to try that...did something like that in high school art class hundreds of years ago...
If the heater gets you in the studio...that's good
like the lotus flower ..keep opening
Might those prints be available on etsy some day?
I love what I get after cutting linoleum. I also like what you get after cutting linoleum. Watch the fingers!
amazing talent..magical textures!
be careful!
So lovely! All of it.
Well, I'm liking your new direction so far.
What is that pink stuff? Looks a little like eraser material.
These are beautiful! It looks like it would be fun to create them too. I can't wait to see how the linoleum version turns out.
Oh what fun! I haven't done this since high school art class. Lovely Lotus! You are so very talented.
Brian, I have vague ideas involving using these as illustrations in a Blurb book, and then selling prints in an Etsy shop...but first I have to make one that I'm actually satisfied with...that's the real challenge!
I do already have a shop set up. I did it last summer but of course there's nothing in it....
Love the prints and handmade paper lotus. Now, why didnt I know before that you had a studio. Glad you can be warm in there. I also must look up this ez-carve thing as a friend mentioned wanting to do lino cuts but maybe this would be a fun gift to get started with.
Here's a link to the EZ Carve blocks (I have both pink and white): http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-e-z-cut-printing-blocks
Suki, my studio used to be upstairs at my house but I never went up there and just moved it downstairs to a little room I was using as an office. Much better.
I didn't realize you made paper too! I'd love to learn.
(from your 2/8 post) I think I would like my next tattoo to be like your lotus, just the simple cut paper one, in those pastel colors...I will save the photo if i may...
