Thinking of You

J started reading this piece on the "messy and tenacious" process of grieving in The New Yorker last night and then handed it to me. Parts of it certainly resonated. I hand it to those of you who have lost loved one's recently. Good Grief. Is There a Better Way to Be Bereaved?

I snapped the above photo on Main St. in Northampton a couple of weeks ago. The "Thinking of You" sticker pasted on the plexiglass caught my attention.

I was just reading that piece, too. The cultural shift in the response to death -- the dwindling of community and ritual and signifiers -- was most interesting (and saddening) to me. In its way, ritual is comfort sometimes, I think.

I have that magazine here but I haven't read the article yet...I have heard Elizabeth Kubler-Ross in person and have attended one of the most interesting symposiums ever on death and dying...will read that piece ASAP....

Thank you Ms. M! We're coming up to the first anniversary of the devastating bushfires here in Melbourne and my father's death, and I'm still struggling with the grief.... I need all the help I can get.

Thinking of you too, across the miles ....
