So. I shelved the sexy vampire idea (which is probably for the best, as who isn't going to be a sexy vampire this year? The entire country is currently obsessed with all things sexy vampire) and I spent this morning tearing around the house for the makings of a costume. Turns out, I have several choices...

God knows I have plenty of vines, leaves, dried flowers and berries, so I fashioned a quick wreath and thought if I combined it with this outfit and added a few more natural elements on my arms and/or legs I could be a wood nymph/earth goddess. Pros: it's fairly comfortable and easy. Cons: the wreath digs into my head, most of my foliage will probably end up littering the dance floor within 10 minutes, and, minus the wreath the outfit isn't anything I wouldn't normally wear. Moss, anyone?
Option #2 felt a little more costume-like thanks to the mask and black wig. Pros: comfortable and costume-like. Cons: still a little boring. Dress doesn't have much give to it for dancing, so there's the potential for an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.Back to the attic...
To pull this ensemble together. There's something about the combination of the afro wig and blank white mask that I really love. Remember this post? Paired up with a vintage 70's polyester jacket and retro-inspired bell bottom pants that I've been holding onto for 15 years for just such an occasion, I could be a creepy, faceless disco dancer. Whatever that is. Pros: I love this wig and am looking for an excuse to wear it. It's a great costume for dancing. Cons: the mask makes it hard to breathe and doesn't have any mouth hole, which will make drinking a challenge. The shoes, while incredibly cute, are going to require me to be carried back to the car by the end of the evening. Still, this is the option I'm leaning towards so far. There are still a few more bird-shaped masks, tuxedo jackets, face paints, petticoats, and prom gowns to shuffle through...

I'd go for the last option but make your own mask! I myself am going to settle into a nice hot bath with a herb tea. Only pumpkin here is roasted ;-). Have a great disco (you could always buy the lolly teeth and have a big stash on hand to keep in your mouth for the evening!) Or... try and find a pair of used dentures in the glass of water by someone's bed (they won't miss them till morning ;-)
Ooh! If you've rejected those red boots, please could I have them? Pleeeease?
We don't really "do" Halloween here, although in recent years some of the little kiddies have taken to going around the streets dressed like Bratz dolls or Britney Spears on a bad hair day.But no yard decorations or spooky house lights.
I love the costumes..Looks like fun.
Thanks for the fun pics! I'd wear the red boots with the last outfit (if they're more comfortable--if not, wear some other comfortable shoes. Spray or glue glitter to the most comfy if you need them to be disco-i-er!)
And instead of a mask, just try a blank face with white make-up (don't forget to white your eyebrows, too!) Then, if you want, you could wear red lipstick, which would really pop against the white, and tie in the red boots if you choose 'em.
Wow. Apparently, I get a little excited about Halloween costumes! Will you be going out in town? I'll look for the big wig :-)
Happy Halloween.
Very creative!...The photos are incredibly fun:)..the last reminds me of the movie Jackie Brown...
i dig that we have the same treehouse dress AND afro wig and white mask...heehee.
i liked all three costumes so i say go with the most comfortable and easiest to move in.
What a laugh. I love the afro wig and vote for that with whatever costume you choose. Can you cut a mouth hole in the mask? Or the makeup idea sounds good. have fun.
How fun! Thanks for sharing these. They all look fantastic. Number one seems the most creative and original, but you're right, everything will fall all over. 2 and 3 are both really sexy/scary fun. So hard to decide. I would love to see the bird one. Can the bird mask go with the wood nymph stuff?
I like #2 for some reason. She's scarier than three and the boots are just yowzers hot!
"I could be a creepy, faceless disco dancer. Whatever that is."
Hey, that's me every Saturday night!
Brian LOL.
I have a completely different costume idea in mind for tonight, and it involves face paint, which I've never used...
Ina, we're going to The Elevens to see The Alchemystics...should be fun!
I do love that wig...
I haven't dressed up in years, but I would love to dress up like a shlubby vampire. You know, as a counterpoint to all those sexy vampires. Maybe balding and with a gut. Wifebeater shirt. Glasses.
