Why don't I think to go down to the nearby river more often? It's so intriguing to wade through it's cold shallow waters, picking up rocks and pieces of ceramic and brick that have been tumbled smooth. And have you ever noticed that the gurgling of rushing water over stones sometimes sounds like low voices? As you can see, some early leaves are beginning to turn here in the hills, and I enjoyed watching them flutter down to the river and rush away downstream. I spent a couple of hours by myself here on Saturday, exploring, getting my sandals and pant legs soaked.Speaking of soaked, Photo 6 was not some mysterious river dweller dragging it's prehensile tail behind it, but me being klutzy and slipping in the deep mud by the river bank. No harm done — for obvious reasons I keep my camera securely around my neck at all times.

Stunning photos--beautiful subjects, all of them.
I ask myself the same question...I live above the beach and I don't walk down there very often either and yet when I do--- it is so calming and peaceful, just like your photos.
And your previous post about the dead-- it reminds me of my collection of bird and animal skulls and bones.not sure why I go "there" and not down to the beach more :-)
Everything looks so lush and green. I've spent a lot of time over the past week looking at lots of dry and brown.
dreamy. i can almost hear the water. which camera (cameras?) did you use?
magpie, i used the canon digital rebel for these (though i had my diana+ with me too and didn't bother with it...)
thanks for taking us along on your walk and ponderings. a treat!
I live two miles from the beach and don't walk it nearly enough. But I also know that whether I'm by the ocean or not, it informs my life, the place I call home.
Nikki, you'd feel very displaced away from the ocean if you were far from it, whether you visit it every day or not. Believe me, I know, it never leaves you!
I think that's why I like spending time at the river, actually.
fabublous photos! wow!!!!
OMIGOSH! I LOVE THESE PHOTOS! These are incredible! I love the processing, the way you captured the moving water in photo 2, the light in photo 4, your shadow in photo 5! Of course you won't be surprised to hear how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE the blurry tree photo!! And the teal blues in the second to last photo (you?).
Such a beautiful set of photos! I wish I could take a photo walk through nature with you!!!
Alicia, thanks! Anytime you guys want to take a road trip you're welcome to visit me here, seriously. I'm not sure how hospitable our drafty old house is for guests but there are super cute B&B's only minutes away and of course endless nature walks to take as well as some damn good food and great day trips — Northampton, North Adams, the Berkshires, etc.
And yup, that's me.
