This is, to date, the most incredible mushroom I've ever seen. I haven't been able to identify it yet...

And I don't just mean the leaves.Just as the woods behind the house are changing, so are the woods across the street. Wild and untouched, even J and I rarely ventured there, not wanting to disturb the peace of such a spot. However, the land has recently been given to the local land trust, and an official hiking trail is being forged over the river and through the woods. On Friday we found foot bridges under construction, and soon official trail markers will guide hikers through the once dense brush. It's a far better situation than the tree-felling that's going on behind our property and is obviously being done thoughtfully, but it's still a change.

Really great photos. I love walking through the woods and seeing new things, especially at this time of year.
It is interesting how the photos go from looking down to looking up at the trees-- back and forth--interesting textures underfoot and eerie views looking up at the trees,
Really good shots.. Thanks for the walk.
These look like Little Red Riding Hood woods! Very moody and a wee bit foreboding...
So, this weekend I went on a hike in the woods (my town is ALL woods) with some friends, and felt inspired to take some very Secret Notebooks-ish photos. Even mushrooms! You'd be proud :)
Also, what kind of camera do you use for these shots? They're great!
that is some unusual mushroom. nice to have those trails opened up across the street. is the other tree felling just to clear cut a bit or will construction happen?
Thanks!
Karen, the woods are indeed a little moody down there. I've only gone once by myself and had an almost instant anxiety attack involving hungry coyotes, so I had to turn around and go back home. So much for being a solitary woods-woman.
Ruth, I totally noticed that! Especially the mushroom!
And Suki, let's hope they won't build behind me. In one way I'm looking for the icing-on-the-cake excuse to do something new, even if it's a more energy efficient and easy to maintain house in the hills, but I'm not ready for any big decisions anytime soon...
I so, so hope that they won't be building behind you!
These are gorgeous shots. Please let us know when you identify that mushroom. It's truly glorious! xo
Wonderful photos and how exciting about the trails and land preservation. I would like to live right there. It seems dreamy.
These photos are great, and I really need to get out into some woods now.
I've never seen a mushroom like that before either!
I stumbled upon this post from the "Link Within" gadget. The first picture of this post is so very cool! I looked at it for a long time. The way you processed it gave it such a dream-like quality. I love the woods.
